I am extremely worried regarding the deterioration of Israeli democracy.

The UN Commission on Human Rights has declared the following as essential elements of democracy:

• respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms
• freedom of association
• freedom of expression and opinion
• access to power and its exercise in accordance with the rule of law
• holding of periodic free and fair elections
• a pluralistic system of political parties and organizations
• separation of powers
• independence of the judiciary
• transparency and accountability in public administration
• free, independent and pluralistic media

Each of the above is being targeted by announced policies of political leaders.
This is not a political statement, but a protest against the worldwide and local Israeli rise of authoritarian ideas.
We should all make an effort to self-educate and be aware of the freedoms we currently take for granted, and what makes them possible.
