Lipschitz Geometry of germs of Real Surfaces

Jun 23, 14:30—15:30, 2026, Math -101

Speaker

Lev Birbrair (Universidade Federal Do Ceará & Jagiellonian University)

Abstract

I am going to describe old and new results related to Inner, Outer and Ambient Lipschitz geometry of germs of Real semi-algebraic and definable surfaces.  The subject is closely related to non-archimedean geometry and Knot Theory.   No preliminary knowledge in Lipschitz Geometry is required.

Bounds on the F-Pure Threshold of Isolated Hypersurface Singularities

Jun 24, 14:10—15:10, 2026, 201

Abstract

The use of the Frobenius map to understand singularities in positive characteristics has been a crucial and important tool in modern algebraic geometry. In addition, it allows us to develop “characteristic p” analogous to several technique over complex varieties that use differetial forms and L^2 analysis. In this talk we focus on the concept of the F-pure threshold, show how we can compute it in several cases, and how we can use it to bound the log canonical threshold of complex polynomials. This talk is partially based upon arXiv:2606.04014.
